Realistic installation prices based on what jobs actually cost in Stowmarket and mid-Suffolk — not a national average that doesn't reflect your area.
Most national price guides for new boilers give you a range so wide it's nearly useless — "£500 to £3,500" covers everything from the cheapest boiler-only supply to a full conventional-to-combi conversion in a large house. This guide is more specific. It's based on what installations actually cost in Suffolk in 2026, written by a Gas Safe engineer who does this work every week. The aim is to give you a realistic picture before you pick up the phone or fill in a quote form.
The final price of a boiler installation depends on several factors. Understanding them helps you compare quotes fairly and avoid being upsold on things you don't need.
A like-for-like combi boiler replacement is the simplest and cheapest job. Switching to a system boiler or converting from a conventional system to a combi involves additional work and materials that push the cost up.
Entry-level models from reputable brands (Baxi 200, Vaillant ecoTEC Pure) are considerably cheaper than premium models (Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000, Vaillant ecoTEC Plus). The price difference is real but so is the performance gap — more on this below.
A larger home with more radiators and bathrooms needs a higher-output boiler. Moving up from a 24kW to a 35kW unit adds cost — but fitting an undersized boiler to save money causes problems down the line.
A standard horizontal flue through an outside wall is included in most quotes. Longer runs, vertical flues (for flats or unusual layouts), or flues through multiple walls add material and labour costs.
If your radiators have cold spots or sludge is visible in the system water, a powerflush may be recommended before the new boiler is connected. Fitting a new boiler to a dirty system shortens its life and can void the warranty. A powerflush typically adds £300–£500 depending on the number of radiators.
If your existing cylinder is old or incompatible with the new boiler, replacing it adds to the job. A new unvented cylinder typically costs £800–£1,500 supply and fit depending on size.
Moving a boiler to a new location, or re-routing pipework that was laid in a previous botched installation, adds labour time and therefore cost. A straightforward like-for-like replacement avoids most of this.
These prices are based on installations in Stowmarket and mid-Suffolk. All prices include supply and fit of the boiler, standard horizontal flue, all labour, commissioning, and warranty registration. Extended flue runs, system flushes, and additional pipework alterations are priced separately and always quoted before work begins.
All prices are indicative. The only way to get an accurate price for your specific property is a free survey visit — see below.
All four brands I install are reputable, Gas Safe compliant, and capable of lasting 10–15 years with proper servicing. The differences come down to price, warranty length, and where each brand positions itself in the market.
Consistently ranked highly in customer satisfaction surveys and well regarded for reliability and after-sales support. Generally priced at the upper-mid to premium end. As a Worcester Bosch Accredited Installer, I can offer extended warranties up to 10 years registered directly with the manufacturer.
A German-engineered brand with a strong reputation for build quality and efficiency. The ecoTEC range is widely fitted across the UK and has a long track record. As a Vaillant Accredited Installer, I can offer extended warranties up to 10 years on qualifying models.
A solid, well-priced option that offers good value for money without cutting corners on quality. Popular for straightforward replacements where budget is a key factor. Standard warranties are typically 2–5 years depending on model. A reliable choice for the majority of properties.
An entry-level brand from the same parent group as Vaillant. Competitively priced and a straightforward choice for budget-conscious replacements in smaller properties where extended warranty coverage is less of a priority.
Honestly, for most Suffolk homes — a three-bed semi with one bathroom — a mid-range boiler from a reputable brand is perfectly adequate. The step up from a Baxi 400 to a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 will not produce noticeably warmer radiators or faster hot water. The differences at the premium end are real but more subtle: marginally better efficiency (which does save money over time), quieter operation, and full compatibility with smart thermostats and connected controls.
The case for spending more is stronger if you plan to stay in the property for 10 or more years (efficiency savings add up), if you have a larger home with higher hot water demand, or if you specifically want smart control integration. For a straightforward replacement in an average property, a mid-range boiler installed correctly is a perfectly sound decision. I'll give you an honest recommendation during the survey visit — not push you towards the most expensive option.
Online quote tools — including the one on this site — are useful for getting a ballpark figure quickly. But the only way to get a price you can actually rely on is a free survey visit.
During the visit I'll assess the property and existing system: where the boiler is located, the condition of the pipework and radiators, the flue route, whether the system needs flushing, and what output is actually required for your home. From that I can produce a full written quote — fixed price, no vague estimates, no day-rate surprises.
I cover Stowmarket and mid-Suffolk including Needham Market, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, and surrounding villages. The survey visit is free with no obligation to proceed. See also the boiler replacement page for more on what's included in every installation.
